Reception Autumn Term

Details of what we will be covering in each area of the Early Years Curriculum can be found in the long term curriculum map (see below).

Homework

Homework will be set and handed in each Friday through the School Google Classroom site and will consist of a practical Phonics and Maths task.

Children are expected to read at home regularly (both reading themselves and being read to). Please record in children’s reading diaries any reading that takes place at home and if children record at least 4 reads a week at home they will receive a star for their star charts.

We would also love to see anything that children do at home related to school/our topic such as paintings or model making, so please send any extra pieces of work from home into school to add to their learning journeys.

Wow moments

Reception children can also send in wow moments to share with the class. Wow moments are new things that they have done or experienced for the first time such as riding a bike without stabilisers and can be added to children’s personal profiles to show their developmental journey.

Outdoor learning/Forest Schools

This term the children will take part in daily outdoor learning in all weather and will be joining Tackley School each Wednesday afternoon for Forest School sessions. Children will also join in with Allotment time each Friday at Wootton Primary School. Therefore wellington boots and a waterproof coat will be required in school each day but full waterproofs (coat, trousers and wellington boots) will be required each Wednesday and Friday.

PE

Children will take part in physical activities each week so will require a PE kit (shorts, joggers, T shirt and PE pumps/trainers) in school each day. Please could we ask that all children’s belongings are named. This helps us to return items to their owners when they have been misplaced or lost.

We hope that this new term will be fun and exciting for our Reception children and we are looking forward to seeing the children’s progress.

Year 1 & 2 Autumn Term

Details of what we will be covering in each area of the curriculum can be found in the long term curriculum map (see below).

Our class reading books this term will be based around traditional tales and fables and will include; The Story Blanket by Ferida Wolff and Harriet May Savitz, Wolfy by Gregoire Solotareff, and Little Red Riding Hood told by Ruth Merttens. The children are welcome to bring in and share any traditional tales/fables that they have at home if they wish to do so.

Homework

Homework will be set and handed in each Friday through the School Google Classroom site and will consist of an English and Maths task.

Children are also expected to read at home regularly (both reading themselves and being read to). Please record in children’s reading diaries any reading that takes place at home and if children record at least 4 reads a week at home they will receive a star for their star charts.

Outdoor learning/Forest Schools

This term the children will attend to the school allotment each Friday. Therefore full waterproofs (coat, trousers and wellington boots) will be required each Friday. We may also walk to the Meadow or take part in outdoor learning throughout the week so children would benefit from leaving a pair of wellington boots in school and bringing a waterproof coat to school each day.

PE

Children will take part in PE each Wednesday at Tackley School therefore need to come to school dressed in their PE kit on this day (shorts, joggers, T shirt and PE pumps/trainers. Please could we ask that all children’s belongings are named. This helps us to return items to their owners when they have been misplaced or lost.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or queries. You can catch us at the start and end of the school day on the playground or via the office.
